“Hey guys! Come back! I think we can fit in here and be safe!” So the fighters started jumping back from the island over to where the druid stood.

😦Ĭrap, crap, crap! Waeslin made it to the other side of the slippery stones, spoke a healing word on the cat-man, and waved over at a side tunnel that could only be seen from the southern bank. Then Nightscale disappeared under the water once more. The four silvery darts did a combined 9 points of damage (I rolled three 1’s!). Ozahl sacrificed his invisibility to cast the most powerful ranged spell he had – magic missile using a 2nd-level spell slot.

The readied actions went off! There was a twang as Borc fired its crossbow at the drake’s big head, and… missed. “Over there! Maybe if we threaten the hoard, she’ll expose herself!” Both he and Theodoric managed to leap over to the island, which did indeed cause Nightscale to emerge… and breath acid on them both! Despite saving, each fighter took half of 42 points of damage, leaving Fires at 1 hit point.

With his keen night vision, Fires could make out an island within the lake that was covered in piles of coins and other treasure! (location 53) He called out to the others. A slip caused him to pause, but the elf was nimble enough to avoid falling into the water. Waeslin drank a healing potion and was the next to try jumping over the slick stones. The tabaxi, seeing that everyone was out of the water, continued east, leaping over a gap to reach another bit of solid ground. The gnome spoke a healing word to himself as he got to his feet. The dragon had not yet returned, a positive sign given the PCs’ precarious situation! Theo and Jheronimus both managed to get themselves out of the drink and stumbled onto the southern ledge. Ozahl likewise held his action until he could see the beast. The druid got to his feet and healed himself some more, and ordered his remaining skeletal minion, Borc, to shoot the dragon with its crossbow should the reptile reappear. After bringing the druid back to life with a healing word, the cleric then tried his luck on the stones, and also slipped! Only the gnome’s little arms were not long or strong enough to grab on to anything, and the water pulled him under and into darkness.įires the tabaxi fighter/rogue took off running after the cleric, but was, sadly, the next to slip on those damnable rocks! As a cat-man, however, he managed to land on his feet, and was able to reach the other side without suffering harm to anything but his dignity. Perhaps if the adventurers pushed deeper into the dragon’s lair, they would find something to use against the wyrm? Theodoric the fighter ran over, jumped, slipped on one of the smooth, wet stones and fell into the water! Thankfully he managed to grab onto the next rock before being swept off by the current.
#TALES FROM THE YAWNING PORTAL TORRENT PATCH#
Though the narrow strip of land that the PCs stood on didn’t go very far around the lake’s edge, there were some large stones at the south end that led to another patch of dirt (location 52). And the party had no way to effectively take the fight to her underwater, nor to force her out onto land.
#TALES FROM THE YAWNING PORTAL TORRENT FREE#
So, the party was in a bit of a pickle! Nightscale was free to remain under water until her breath weapon recharged, pop up, breathe, submerge, and repeat. The dark drake immediately submerged after its attack. One of the druid’s two skeletons, Forc, failed its save – not that it mattered, it would have been destroyed either way – and melted into a pile of steaming goo. Jheronimus the gnome cleric, partially shielded by the octopus, also saved and remained on his feet. Unfortunately, the remaining damage was still enough to bring the elf down to 0 hit points, even with the successful save. Luckily, the druid was Wild Shaped into an octopus, which meant the animal form absorbed some of the damage. The invisible Ozahl the wizard called out a warning to Waeslin the already-wounded elven druid, using a Portent roll of 14 to ensure that the elf would make his saving throw. The damage was considerable, 38 or save for half, when most of the party had hit point maximums in the mid 20’s.
